After General Manager John Hammond said the Milwaukee Bucks were okay with the 12th spot in the NBA Draft, they 'suddenly changed' their minds and dealt the number 12 pick to the Houston Rockets. Here's the deal, first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski
BUCKS GET: C Samuel Dalembert and the 14th pick in the 2012
ROOCKETS GET: G Shaun Livingston F Jon Leuer C Jon Brockman
Let the speculation begin!
First for the Bucks, there are many interesting parts here. Dalembert is on a one-year deal so he could be released without much of a cap hit from the Bucks side of things. Therefore the idea of drafting a big man still could be in the works. In fact, Draft Express has the Bucks taking Meyers Leonard from Illinois. If you want to see how I would react to that on draft night, this video should do the justice.
The other idea is this will open up for the Bucks to take a wing player like Terrence Ross, Perry Jones III, or Terrence Jones. All three of those players would definitely be immediate contributors for the Bucks, but they all come with some baggage. Jones III has the soft label tattooed on his forehead. The other Jones is a wee bit of a headcase. There is really no baggage with Ross; it's just his game is being compared with Nick 'Swaggy P' Young and J.R. Smith.
Who knows what the Rockets will do. There is the persistent rumor that they want to trade for Dwight Howard who said he doesn't like Houston. First of all, that makes no sense to me, you get teaching from Hakeem Olajuwon and Kevin McHale, plus the team is pretty solid. Second, how does Orlando refuse a deal that gives them four picks including theirs in the 10-20s of a draft, experts consider very solid.
Houston could also move a couple of these picks to attempt to get into the top ten. It's actually made the days before the draft extremely exciting. We will wait and see what Houston pulls off next because we all know they aren't done.
Charlie.
