The Captivating Tale of Steve Nash to the Lakers

If Pee Wee Herman's Big Show was still on television, the Word of the Day should have been fascinating. Why fascinating?  Because that is exactly what the Steve Nash trade to the Lakers is right now.  There are so many questions with many loose ends right now which makes it very fascinating.

As my buddy Bails pointed out to me, 'The Blake Show is back to third place in L.A.'s mind before you knew it.'  Yup, Nash is the new attraction that everyone will watch. People will forget that he is 38 years old, and has really never played with a guy like Kobe Bryant.  Yes, he is a two-time MVP, but there are so many questions about this team with Nash.

Kobe has never had a guy like Nash running his team. It's always been a Derek Fisher or Smush Parker-type player, and not a Nash.  He is the type of guy who carries the ball up the court, and needs it in his hand to make things work.  The complex comes in when people realize that Kobe is the same type of ballplayer. He needs the ball in his hand to be successful.  Not a single time in his career has Kobe been a catch-and-shoot type player which are the players that Nash works the best with, but there are other concerning things about Nash to Lakers.

Mike Brown's slow down offense does not fit Nash at all. Even though he is old, Nash plays at an up-tempo pace so how will adapt Brown's system?  That's the biggest question right now.  Milwaukee Bucks' Head Coach Scott Skiles should be sending Brown a fruit basket for joining him on the hot seat.  Brown's offense will now have to figure in Nash's style to match with Kobe.  In years past, Brown has not proved that he can handle that.  Bails and others suggested Mike D'Antoni to the Lakers, which would be damn interesting for the team. It's probably a safe bet his name gets brought up if the Lakers have a rough November/December.

While the Kobe-Nash relationship might be rocky at first, the post guys will love Nash from the start.  Like they will be BFFs more so than Kobe.  The production that Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum will get from playing with a guy like Nash will be astounding.   Now that's assuming that Bynum will be staying in Los Angeles.  There have been rumors that an offer is on the table for Dwight Howard for Bynum and Metta World Peace, contingent on Howard signing the extension. If this team adds Howard, no one will worry about how Nash and Bryant cannot guard a soul on the perimeter.

Personally, it feels like the Lakers are not done.  They still want Howard because they know right now with this team, the Oklahoma City Thunder is still the class of the Western Conference. If D12 joins Nash-Kobe, things become much more interesting in the West.
