How Handle an All-Star Snub

After a long Saturday evening of mayhem in Milwaukee, I woke up around 11:30 on Sunday morning.  As I am trying to knock the cobwebs out, I remember that the MLB All-Star selection show started at noon.  Since the Milwaukee Brewers recent success, the All-Star Game has been more exciting because the Crew usually has two or three representatives. Although this year that didn't happen. The Brewers were regulated back to one All-Star, and it is disappointing.

I must admit when I saw Arizona Diamondbacks' starter Wade Miley got selected after I just watched him get lit up like Christmas tree the night prior, it somewhat bothered me.  I knew everyone needed an All-Star, but Miley?  Additionally when Zack Greinke's name became absent from the list, I felt about as butthurt as Adam does when he gets turned down by a woman in Workaholics.  I went over last week about the year that Greinke is having, and to see him not get rewarded really does make  you upset as a fan.  It also doesn't help things former St. Louis Cardinals' manager Tony La Russa is involved with this process.

As all Brewer fans know, La Russa does not seem to think fondly of the Brewers and their fans. He made that crystal clear last year during the pennant race in early August.  Add to the fact, that Greinke called Cardinals' pitcher Chris Carpenter, 'a phony' before the National League Championship Series, things start becoming a little fishy. While the Cincinnati Reds have a bigger beef, Greinke getting slighted is just another trophy on the disappointing mantle that is the 2012 Milwaukee Brewers season.

Even if La Russa did not intend to do something like that, he got himself involved in the headlines before the All-Star Game. La Russa figured out a way to keep his 'look at me' attitude before and after the All-Star Game.  In case you are wondering what the after is, La Russa will start talking about how he misses baseball, and then his name will be suggested for every job potentially available. I guar-damn-tee you this will happen.

Greinke will shrug off the fact of the matter that he isn't an All-Star. That's Greinke's attitude, but the way the Brewers scheduled his starts this week makes me think Greinke wanted to be in Kansas City for the All-Star Game. Badly.  The biggest hope I have is the next two starts are the 'Zack Greinke FU Tour' and he is absolutely lights out to begin the month of July.

Now, there is a chance that some pitcher decides he doesn't want to throw in the All-Star Game, and Greinke finds a way in.  Even that glimmer of hope remains doubtful with most of the staff being healthy, and there other options (i.e. Madison Bumgartner) that La Russa can choose from.  It's not that I am mad at La Russa, it's his team, he can do what he wants with it.   It's more frustrating for Greinke than anything else.

The All-Star Game will be fine like it is every year, but I will still be yearning for Greinke to be there.

Charlie.
