Stop The Madness: This 92 Dream Team vs. 2012 Dream Team Nonsense

It's the middle of summer, there are not a lot of stories to talk about that don't involve Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce,  Paulina Gretzky, or some arbitrary list of who is the best in the NFL. But thanks to Los Angeles Lakers' star Kobe Bryant, there is another thing to talk about.  The 2012 Dream Team versus the 1992 Dream Team.

I would let you an ugh, but Eric, a one-time contributor banned that word from being used here.

I admit, I was the tender age of four when the Dream Team took their talents to Barcelona and laid the smackth down on the world's candy asses. Although I still realize the team was one of the greatest ever assembled.  There were so many great generational players hitting their prime in 1992, while there were others that had the 1992 Olympics as the final exclamation point in a long, illustrious career.

This Dream Team is fine, and should win the gold medal yet this isn't even their best twelve heading to London.  There is no Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, or Blake Griffin.  If those four guys are on the team, we might have an argument for the who is the best Dream Team, but right now, it's complete hot air that Bryant and others are spewing.

The trash talk itself is pretty fun, and enjoyable to hear past and present players jab at one another. But the way the media is covering this non-story is borderline ludicrous.  People weighing in on the phone lines of local sports talk radio, and First Take probably covering it too (I don't watch so I have no idea if they did.) Seriously?  There are several baseball topics they could talk about, or the never-ending Saints saga, something other than this hot garbage.

The reason why this story sucks is we never will have a way to figure out who wins.  Sure, some geek can punch a ton of numbers and figure out which is team is better.  But they will never be able to play each other. Case closed, story over.  Now vanish from the media please, thank you.

Charlie.
