Brewers Deal Aramis Ramirez to Pittsburgh

Milwaukee Brewers are expected to be active at the trade deadline, and they
made their first move this afternoon by dealing Aramis Ramirez to Pittsburgh Pirates for Yhonathan Barrios, a 23-year old reliever. Milwaukee fans shouldn't expect much from dealing Ramirez, a long-time veteran on the verge of retirement, but this is a nice return that could turn into something in the future.

Barrios is wet behind the ears as a pitcher. This is only his second year doing it with formerly being a shortstop. Barrios can touch 100 on the gun, and FanGraphs put him at number 30 in terms of prospects.  I feel like we are seeing a long-term plan playing out here as Milwaukee acquires a player with a high ceiling and potential versus immediate skill. This is a nice move by the Brewers for the future.  For more information on Barrios, Kiley McDaniel has some great stuff.

As for Ramirez's career in Milwaukee, it was a good one. He never stayed healthy after the 2012 season where Ramirez found himself as one of the top players in the National League. 2014 found Rami as an All-Star. But many people will look towards his injuries which cost him time in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

When Milwaukee signed him, it was very hard to get around the idea of Ramirez being a Brewer after spending so much time in Chicago, but now, he will be a cheered on former Brewer.

Charlie.
