Ty Lawson Traded to Houston For Nothing

The Denver Nuggets have reached an agreement to trade guard Ty Lawson to the Houston Rockets, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Houston will send Kostas Papanikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson and a lottery-protected 2016 first-round draft pick to Denver, sources said. Along with Lawson, the Nuggets will send a 2017 second-round pick to Houston.

Houston made an all-in move on getting to the NBA Finals by acquiring Ty Lawson in a trade that sent four players to Denver plus a lottery-protected first round pick.  Houston made their move to compete in an ultra-competitive Western Conference which has only got better since Golden State won the NBA title. Lawson has been arrested two times in the last six months for DUI's is trying to get his life back in check at an alcohol treatment center, and Daryl Morey, Rockets GM, must feel confident Lawson keep himself clean moving forward.

Houston will have quite the squad next season with Lawson, James Harden, Trevor Ariza, Terrence Jones and Dwight Howard with Patrick Beverly being a dynamite sixth man.   Rockets will be right there to contend again. Sure, Lawson clowed Harden on Instagram last summer, but I'm sure all will be forgotten when they get to playing with each other. Couple things to like from Lawson... The assists have been rising for him with 8.8 in 13' and 9.6 in 14'. Also even though it's a small sample size, Lawson played well in the playoffs.

I don't think the Rockets mortgaged the farm to get him either. Kostas Papanikolau is an intriguing player, but he only showed minor flashes all year. Nick Johnson is old for a second-year player, but he could always shoot in college. Denver getting an extra pick when they could be picking near the top of the draft is solid for them, but other than that, there is nothing really too exciting about this trade for them. It's like Denver saying to their fans... 'The tank is coming, we want Emmanuel Mudiay and Ben Simmons together.'
