Deep skepticism here about whether taxpayers would be stuck footing the bill for the Olympics has doomed Boston’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Games and raised questions about whether any other major American city might be willing to take on the risk.
The United States Olympic Committee said Monday that it was withdrawing Boston as its proposed bid city because resistance among residents was too great to overcome in the short time that remained before the committee had to formally propose a bid city by Sept. 15. (Via New York Times)

I don't know how many of you have been following the Boston Olympics bid, but it's been a categorical disaster. First of all, there were approval ratings that stood below 40 percent by the general public to host the Olympics. Therefore the city had absolutely no juice going into the thing. And then people found out the costs of the Olympics would be to the city and state which was when the mayor of Boston plus the governor of Massachusetts both bailed out of the running. Some are wondering if Los Angeles would be up for it given how spread out things could be plus the allure of new football stadiums.
Charlie.
