Blue Jays make a huge splash by getting Tulo from Colorado
Holy shit. That's really all I can say about this one as FOX's Ken Rosenthal broke the story late into the night. Troy Tulowitzki heads to the Toronto Blue Jays to add even more power in a dangerous lineup. Tulowitzki will likely hit fifth in an order that looks lethal with Josh Donaldson, Jose Batisita, Edwin Encaranacion and Tulowitzki plus the Jays have some other young talent. It's only surprising because people thought Toronto might try and grab one of the elite starting pitchers on the market given their starting pitching woes. My guess is they might get a guy like Yovani Gallardo or another 3 or 4 starter which doesn't really patch up a hole. Tulo playing on turf given all of his injuries has bad news written all over it. Toronto added LaTroy Hawkins as well who will help some of their bullpen issues as well. Hawkins hasn't been great this year, but he will provided some addedleadership
Colorado will receive Jose Reyes who finds his third team since leaving the New York Mets and back in the National League. This is his fourth team in five years. Many guess Reyes will be dealt after the season, yet he could get flipped before Friday. Rockies receive some young pitching in the deal as well. Colorado's new goal is to teach them how to pitch at Coors Field. Miguel Castro is a 20 year old tearing up AAA Buffalo, and my guess is the Rockies will have him up sooner rather than later. Rockies also get Jeff Hoffman, Toronto's number nine pick in 2014. He recently got promoted to Double A, and while they are some concerns, he's relatively fresh to pro baseball with 56 innings under his belt. Additionally, Rockies added Jesus Tinoco as well who is a young 20 year old pitcher who Toronto had in their system since 16. Many people have been encouraged about how Tinoco pitched of late. If Colorado teaches these kids how to pitch at their home park plus can deal Reyes, it's a hell of a deal for them.
Mets get more bullpen assistance plus block Nationals acquiring Clippard
There will be no reunion in the nation's capital as the New York Mets acquire Tyler Clipped from Oakland for Casey Meisner, a minor league pitcher. New York needed to add an arm in the bullpen with Jeurys Familia struggling of late and Jenrry Meijia not being eligible for the postseason. Clippard is very familiar with the National League East which is a huge plus and leads me to believe he should be successful with the team. Additionally, it means Washington needs to go back to the drawing board for a reliever. Meisner seems like he could have real potential only being 20 years young plus a huge frame at 6'7. The one concern was he could never fully hit his fastball speed on a consistent basis.
Angels get added outfield help with Shane Victorino
Boston Red Sox are trying to move some contracts and received some help unloading Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Angels for cash plus Josh Rutledge, a young infielder. Victorino is not the player he once was for Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia or Boston, yet he brings the vaunted playoff leadership plus many love him inside the clubhouse. Victornio will get a chance to start as Matt Joyce is batting a woeful .179 out in left field. If he has a little gas in the tank defensively, Los Angeles will have one of the better defensive outfields in baseball.
Charlie.
