BrewCapping The Week of July 27th

My apologies for missing the BrewCap this week. It's been an eventful one not only for myself, but also for the blog.  Here's the general storylines as Milwaukee lost again 5-2, that makes two straight losses and Brewers lost six of their last eight games. Not a strong finish to the month.

1.) Wily Peralta and Jimmy Nelson both looked fantastic - Milwaukee isn't playing good baseball to finish the year, but one thing that's encouraging is how well Peralta and Nelson. More so, Jimmy who has been red hot of late. He went seven innings, two hits allowed, eight strikeouts, no runs allowed. Nelson's ERA in July is down to under two. Peralta looked great in his first start giving up two runs in six-plus innings. It seemed like he had full command of his pitches, and Peralta looked comfortable out there again. If both these pitchers are doing well, 2016 could be fun from a pitching standpoint.

2.) Second half Will Smith is a thing - Last year, we saw Will Smith find himself at the end of the bench in the second half. It might happen again this season. For July, Smith gave up seven runs and two home runs. He didn't give up a homer all year before July. Also left-handers are hitting .290 against him so why are the Brewers still using him situationally. He's not good against lefties this year. Currently, lefties are hitting .290 against him with a pretty good sample size.

3.) Craig Counsell continues to battle with the removal of starting pitchig - One of the thing that's been a problem for Counsell of late, is removing starting pitchers are their optimal time. Mike Fiers and Nelson deserved to pitch the seventh. But not being satisified with Wily having a big start, he plugs them in for another inning. I'm not going to be too upset about this one because he's a young manager and it takes time to be great.

4.) Khris Davis is pushing far too hard - Currently, the Brewer mirred in the biggest slump is Khris Davis. He came back from injury and provided some glimpses yet nothing really special from him thus far. For July, he's batting seven-for-40 making his average sit at a cool .176. Davis isn't producing like people thought he would this season. I feel like he needs to take a couple days off and get back to work.

5.) Who will be left?  - Not sure. I feel like Gerardo Parra is a probable yes, and Adam Lind will not, I feel like teams are too concerned with his back.We shall see.

Charlie.
