The BrewCap Vol.104: The Disappearing Milwaukee Offense

The BrewCap will recap the Brewers game on the day of the game replacing Highlights-Lowlights. I felt like those got too repetitive and people missed out on what actually happened. The schedule is varied on these unfortunately due to me having a life. Best hope is they are up the day of the game, but sometimes, it bleeds to the next day. Deal with it.

Milwaukee is going through quite a problem on offense. They have 14 runs in eight games, that's an average of 1.75 runs a game. Milwaukee had no answer for the Cubs pitching staff for the second straight game. Will the Brewers break out tomorrow night? Who knows. They have gotten bad again quickly and their great July looks rather average.

Player of the Day (Cubs) - Jason Hammel (P): After he gave up a home run to Ryan Braun, Hammel did his usual thing at Miller Park. Hammel plowed through Milwaukee's order giving up four hits after the Braun home run. He struck out four batters as well. Hammel needed to face the Brewers after having a terrible start against Philadelphia the last time out. Other than that Philly start, Hammel has been pretty solid.

Not Player of the Day (Cubs) - Chris Coghlan (OF): Not the best day at the ballpark for Coghlan. He went 1-for-5 and left a runner in scoring position. Coghlan is the most puzzling three hitter I have seen in quite some time. Remember the Cubs wanted another outfielder at the trade deadline and couldn't get it done. Mostly to replace Coghlan in the order since there isn't much there for him.

Player of the Day (Brewers) - Tyler Thornburg (P): Good to see one of the guys coming up from Colorado Springs having a good outing. Thornburg went two innings giving up only one hit, striking out two batters and working around a runner on third in the ninth after a Shane Peterson error. If Thornburg can return to form in the bullpen, he will be a valuable reliever for this Brewers team for the rest of the year and the following year.

Not Player of the Day (Brewers) - Jonathan Lucroy (C): My assumption is he will hit in the second spot for the rest of the season, but Lucroy should be the fifth hitter at best for this team. Lucroy is near the league-lead in double plays which isn't a good thing when you're hitting in the second part. Lucroy finished the game with an 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

When The Game Turned -  Fifth inning. Milwaukee is down a run, and they get runners on first and third with one out. Lucroy hit into a double play and ended the inning. Milwaukee finds a way to push one across there, it's a tied game and who know what happens down the stretch.

What to Watch - Milwaukee will try to break their losing streak with Matt Garza and avoid the series win by the Cubs.

Charlie.
